Janet Davis, M.A., LMFT

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (MFC31081)

I find it gratifying to work with individuals and families as they resolve the obstacles to improving their quality of life. Often troubled relationships with self (self esteem, depression, anxiety, motivation) and others (communication, anger, fear) include conditions that feel stuck. Over 20 years of experience with multicultural population in urban Southern California has allowed me to recognize and develop sensitivity to diverse individual needs. My training in family systems and extensive work with children, teens, families and individuals has provided me with examples of how lifestyle rapidly increases in complexity and challenges our well being.  Assisting children, teens, adults and families to progress with their efforts to find direction and satisfaction, to optimize their strengths and resolve persistent issues can be achieved through changes in how individuals verbalize their feelings and perceptions, how they use resources and how they credit themselves as they progress. I encourage self compassion and development of positive coping skills to replace long held tendencies to discount viable options for change.  Behavioral and emotional changes become achievable.

Experience interfacing with schools, legal system and community support resources has helped me optimize clients' extended support system and sense of security for achieving improvement and change from issues beyond their control.  My experience has been enhanced by use of Spanish with families negotiating difficulties with bi-cultural issues.
